I live in NE Portland and have been seeing new insects in my garden. Today I saw and photographed a red dragon fly. I thought I should share it with someone. I would also like to know more about it.

Aahh Kevin... you have a beautiful photograph of my favorite insect! This dragonfly appears to be (you're going to love these names) the Flame Skimmer or Firecracker Skimmer, Libellula saturata.
It is not uncommon, but one of the most eye catching of our western dragonflies for its bright red color. I'll attach a brief article with more information but lucky you to have them sitting for your photo!
