How to transplant Hood strawberry runners #876103

Asked July 06, 2024, 1:04 PM EDT

My Hood strawberries are sending out runners now. I want to save some to give to someone else. How do I do this? Do I need to root them in a pot first?

Washington County Oregon

Expert Response

The runners will set roots, so think about where you have a good place for them to grow and be dug later, even early next spring. Often beside to current row works. Keep track of those daughter plant locations with a tag or ribbon. Don’t allow every runner to set, or extend too far, instead clipping off those you don’t need to avoid crowding.
Here is EC 1307 about growing strawberries in your home garden.

Thank you.  Good advice.
