Tree Identification #876091

Asked July 06, 2024, 11:48 AM EDT

These Trees were planted at the Howard County Glenwood Library. Appear to be a hybrid of a sweet gum. Can you identify? Is it supposed to be fruit bearing?

Expert Response

Hello Charles,

That is most likely a cultivar of sweet gum (Liquidambar styraciflua). The most readily available, rounded-leaf cultivar is 'Rotundiloba'. While is it mostly fruitless, it does occasionally produce fruit, as your picture illustrates.
