Replace Snowball bush viburnum with fig tree? #876076

Asked July 06, 2024, 7:30 AM EDT

Hello! I have this medium-size Snowball bush viburnum (approx. 5-6' tall and wide) that I would like to remove and, in its place, plant a fig tree this fall. Should I have any concerns about replacing one with the other, like will there be anything left in the soil that might hurt the fig tree? Thank you!

Expert Response

Catherine, there is no reason you can't plant a fig where the viburnum was.  Just be sure the site has full sun and good drainage which is required for figs to thrive and produce fruit.

Thank you Taffy!  We're excited.  We'll look to planting in the fall to avoid heat stress.

Take care,
Cathy
