Diseased leaves Honeycrisp Apple Tree #876064

Asked July 05, 2024, 10:55 PM EDT

I have a young honey crisp apple tree whose leaf veins are turning dark brown and leaves seem curled. Some of the leaves look normal and others have mottling with light green. Which I assume is honeycrisp mottling disease. But I’m not finding any diseases that cause browning veins.

Expert Response

It does look like your tree has Honeycrisp leaf mottling disorder. It is unique to Honeycrisp trees.

The leaves are suffering from chlorosis because of a building-up of carbohydrates. The browning veins is just the advanced stage of the chlorosis.  There is nothing you can do for this. It is mostly cosmetic and the disorder does not affect the fruit. It usually shows up in low fruiting years.

It will usually disappear as the tree matures.
