Causes for swampy milkweed leaf discoloration #876045

Asked July 05, 2024, 5:33 PM EDT

Hello, I am hoping you will be able to tell me the cause of discoloration of some of my swamp milkweed plants' leaves. Some of the leaves are mottled with darker (normal?) green and lighter shades of green. Also, a few of the leaves are edged and/or tipped in a rust red color. Can you tell me if these are due to a nutrient deficiency or disease or something else? Thank you!

Expert Response

Hi,

Are these the older leaves towards the bottom of the plant? If  not it could be some heat and drought stress symptoms. In any case it isn't anything to be concerned about and the plant should be fine.

Just make sure it is receiving water as needed and at the base of the plant.

Gratefully,
Cathy
