Can I make marionberry jam with a recipe for blackberries? #876032

Asked July 05, 2024, 4:16 PM EDT

I grow marionberries in my yard and would like to make jam that I can can with a waterbath. My Sure Jell low sugar pectin has a recipe for blackberries.  I know marionberries are blackberries,  but are there significant differences in the berries that would make it unsafe to use the blackberry recipe with marionberries?

Expert Response

Yes is safe to use the black berry recipe and substitute Marion Berries.  I do it all the time and it is delicious. Enjoy your jam.

You might also like to try Marion Berry freezer jam using Mrs. Wages Freezer Instant Pectin.  It uses a lot less sugar than regular freezer jam and is delicious.  One of my favorite toppings for pancakes and waffles and ice cream.
