Orange bell pepper no fruit #876004

Asked July 05, 2024, 1:33 PM EDT

My orange bell pepper plants are very tall, large leaves and no flowers or fruit. Assuming too much nitrogen in the soil. They stand about 18” tall. What should I do? And should I prune them down some ? Thank you!

Hi Holly,

Too much nitrogen is one possibility for the lack of flowers. The only way to tell for sure is to have your soul tested. Ohio State has a helpful fact sheet on soil testing that includes a list of labs where you can send samples. You can find it at https://ohioline.osu.edu/factsheet/hyg-1132

Is it possible the plants flowered but the blossoms fell off during a hot spell?

As for pruning, that is best started when the plants are transplanted.
