Spearmint garden #876000

Asked July 05, 2024, 12:13 PM EDT

Hello-

I have a mature Spearmint garden that until a couple years ago seemed quite healthy.  However, the last couple years the stalks have become spindly and brown with few leaves other than the top third of the plants.  Also, by mid summer the plants sag and almost lay over on themselves.  The patch continues to send out shooters to other areas and though immature, they seem healthy. There doesn't seem to be any new growth within the primary patch.  Plenty of good sunlight through 1 p.m. and the soil is moist.  I am guessing there is a lack of something in the way of supplements. What is my spearmint garden lacking?  Do I trim back everything now and hope that the enrichments will get things going next Spring?

Thanks for any suggestions or feedback.
