Swamp oak problem #875996

Asked July 05, 2024, 12:09 PM EDT

I have a swamp oak that started dropping leaves which have a black discoloration. I had a arborist out to look at the tree while I was at work. It’s not oak wilt, but he believes it’s stress possibly, and is recommending a couple of treatments ( injections ). I’m thinking the leaves dropping is caused by our cool, wet weather. Has there been a rash of oak, or other trees in our area dropping leaves also. My thought is the leaves will grow back on their own. Any thoughts? Thanks, Rick

Hi Rick,

I'm not sure what the issue is, there are several things that could be affecting your tree. It would help to have some pictures both of close ups of the leaves and of the tree in it's entirety.

My guess is you have anthracnose which is quite prevalent this year do to the wet weather. I don't know what the arborist wants to inject in the tree ?
