Expert Response

Hi Michelle,

From what I can see in the photograph, yes, that is a blister beetle--they are showing up in high numbers across the Front Range.  Typically they do not persist for long--only a week or two before the aggregations will move along to other areas.  Often there's no need for any action other than to wait.  Exclusion, hand-picking into soapy water (while wearing gloves), and some insecticide options are available as control measures for particularly valuable plants.

Cordially,

John
