How to eradicate Japanese Knot Weed #875851

Asked July 03, 2024, 3:59 PM EDT

I represent an HOA in Chisago City. The yard in one of our townhomes near Green Lake suddenly has an infestation of Japanese Knot Weed. It was cut back as much as possible but grew right back quickly and it spreads. WE would prefer not to use Roundup. Please tell me how we might rid ourselves of this pesky, invasive plant.

Expert Response

You should report the weed to the DNR.  https://extension.umn.edu/identify-invasive-species/japanese-knotweed
The only way to kill off Japanese Knotweed without chemicals will take approximately 5 years according to the Dept of Ag New Hampshire.  Sometimes the proper use of chemicals is the best way to proceed.  Read the label of any product you choose to make sure the knotweed is listed on the label.  Follow directions exactly.  Here is the NH info: file:///C:/Users/owner/Downloads/japanese-knotweed-control.pdf
