We are building a home in Biwabik, MN. We wish to create a Bee friendly Lawn environment. Prefer to use clover native to area. Wish to have a mixture of grass/clover to maintain lawn and protect area when clover dies back each season. Area is heavy tree covered so there will be shade with partial sun. Wish to have very low maintenance lawn. Goal Mow at most once a month. Prefer Twice a season.
Drainage of property is good. No Standing water.
Please see attached drawing for Landscape plan. Area outside of green circle is heavily wooded.
Please advise on the best Grass/Clover mixture.
Will the shade be a problem for the Clover?
Do you have better option of native plants for a lawn that would low maintenance and bee friendly? .
Any other taller flowering plants you would recommend for the bees in this area?
Thank you.

There are many bee lawn mixes now available on the market now. Any sold by your local garden center would be appropriate for your area. The mix will probably contain some fescue, which will address the shade concern. Go to this link and then open Create a Pollinator Friendly Landscape. As you click on the various titles, you will receive the information you want. Enjoy your new landscape. https://extension.umn.edu/lawns-and-landscapes/flowers-pollinators#create-a-pollinator-friendly-landscape-1130060
