Those are wolf spiders (Superfamily Lycoisoidea). This is a very large group with very little to help tell them apart, so I can't be sure of the species. Regardless, these spiders are harmless. Unlike other spider which reside in their webs, wolf spiders are active hunters. Some species can become quite large (Hogna carolinensis), but most get as big as the size you've observed.
