Triumph pollinatorrs #875695

Asked July 02, 2024, 3:29 PM EDT

Would a triumph apple be a decent pollinator for a honeycrisp apple and vice versa? If not, would a red regent and a honeycrisp pollinate each other?

Expert Response

Yes to both.  We want trees to bloom fairly closely in time.  However, in Minnesota our season is so short that almost all trees bloom within a couple weeks, plenty of time to pollinate.  Also, if there are any crab apple trees, regular or ornamental, they also serve as pollinators.  I am giving you a link on apples trees, open the drop down box on Apple Varieties recommended for Minnesota.  You will see they all ripen within a few weeks of each other.  https://extension.umn.edu/fruit/growing-apples  You also should be aware of pests and the practice of bagging apples. The apple maggot is the most common followed by the others in the second link.  https://extension.umn.edu/yard-and-garden-insects/apple-maggot       https://extension.umn.edu/yard-and-garden-news/three-key-fruit-pests-look-june
