Asked July 02, 2024, 2:59 PM EDT

We are doing groundskeeper work for various Michigan school districts. Is a license required to apply weed control chemicals to parking lot cracks here in Michigan?

Expert Response

Yes, if this work is being done for pay, then a Commercial Pesticide Applicators Certificate is required by the State of Michigan. You can read more information about this here: https://www.michigan.gov/mdard/licensing/pesticide/pesticide-applicator-certification

A business that is applying pesticides for hire is also required to have a Pesticide Application Business License. You can read more information about this here: https://www.michigan.gov/mdard/licensing/pesticide/pesticide-application-business

When working with schools there are also reporting considerations for any applications. You would need to work with the school administration to ensure that these requirements are met.
