DIY sycamore anthracnose treatment #875681
Asked July 02, 2024, 2:05 PM EDT
Is a DIY trunk injection treatment for sycamore anthracnose feasible? I've been quoted $1500 for a 2-time treatment by a local arborist. Seems expensive.

Expert Response
Trunk injection requires specialized equipment and expertise and should be left to professionals. If not done right, the tree can be damaged.
To help your tree, be sure your tree is getting adequate (and not too much) water during the growing season. Wintering watering will also help the tree be in better shape to combat disease.

I had a mature locust tree injected recently. The arborist bored 10 holes around the trunk with a hardware store drill and used a bike pump to inject the medicine from a syringe-like vessel;. Nothing specialized there. $350 and 30 minutes later she was done. I was hopeful that your service could recommend a fungicide, dose, and apparatus for a homeowner to care for a mature sycamore instead of deferring the work to a high dollar professional.
Watering is not the issue in this case.
