Expert Response

Hi Willie and thanks for your question about moving bumble bees. As these bees are usually ground nesters, I don't believe you can actually move their hives. Here is what Oregon State recommends:

"Bumble bees (Bombus spp.) are easier to live with than yellowjackets. They are less aggressive. Do not disturb their nests and they will likely not sting you.

Some bumble bees and other bees nest in the ground . Often these nests will be underneath a storage shed or a crack in a foundation. If needed, seal the crack in the fall after the nest collapses."

If they are in a problem location such as near a front door, you should call a local exterminator. If you can live with them, they are really a good bee that pollinates a lot of plants.

Good luck,
