MapleTree trunk cracking #875641

Hi, Can you tell me why my maple tree trunk is cracking and what I should do about it? Thanks!

Hi Jordana and thanks for your picture of your maple tree with a cracking trunk. From your picture, it looks like there is no root flare at the soil level which means your tree is planted too deep or there is too much mulch around the base. There is also a really big branch competing with the trunk for dominance. If I were you, I would call a couple of ISA certified arborists to take a look and see if there is a remedy for either of the problems. They should come and look for free and then you can compare answers and see what their solutions are. Here is a website you can locate some near you.

And sometimes trees just have bark splits because they are growing fast!
