Danger of weed control spray on edible plants #875624

Asked July 02, 2024, 10:58 AM EDT

I have been having my yard sprayed for weed control . Also fertilizer is applied . I have a rhubarb patch next to my back deck which borders the lawn. Also I have some herbs growing near another area near the deck. Is it harmful to eat these plants after the lawn has been sprayed? Am wondering if I should discontinue the spraying process. Chemical include: 2,4 Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid, Di- methylami ne Salt of (+) R-2 (2-Methyl-4-Chlorophenoxy) propionic Acid, Dimethylamine salt of Dicamba (3,6-Dichloro-o-anisic Acid) Epa#10404-43 .

Washtenaw County Michigan

Expert Response

If there is evidence that the edible plants have been contacted with these herbicides (i.e., cupping of leaves, distorted growth) then they should not be eaten.

There are no established Maximum Residue Levels (MRLs) for these types of chemicals on these crops because they are not labeled for use on these crops.

Please let me know if you have more questions.
