Save Joe Pye #875583

Asked July 01, 2024, 10:58 PM EDT

What is likely causing so much damage to my Coastal Joe Pye Weed? The plant looked great in early to mid spring, then in late spring the leaves became eaten to a great extent by some kind of insect. What is the best thing to do about this?

Expert Response

It could be any number of leaf chewing insects and apparently they really preferred this plant! We don't think you should be overly concerned since it will return and re-leaf  and looks like it will still bloom this year. Since this is a pollinator plant we suggest just leaving it alone so it doesn't harm any beneficial insects.

Dear Emily,
Thank you! I did not want to use any pesticides.
