Tree health #875547

Asked July 01, 2024, 5:33 PM EDT

Hello! I am trying to find a an arborist or someone who can help check the health of a birch tree at my parents house that might be sick? They are wondering if they need to take it down or if it will be healthy enough to last another five years. Could you help me to know who to call about this question? I also have a big cedar tree at my own house that has some limbs over on the neighbors side that they want trimmed. I want to see who we might call about that as well Thank you, Nancy Upton, Hillsboro, Oregon

I’m sorry, I can’t make a recommendation to a specific firm. To choose an arborist, check that they are certified. Here is a directory. Some are full service and can do any work required. There are also consulting arborists, who will assess the hazard a tree poses and make recommendations to you. I find checking online and with neighbors for recommendations, then confirming the certification, works well.
Here’s a brochure about tree care, and we also need to water our landscape trees. This fact sheet from the Oregon Department of Forestry, gives more advice.
I’ve hired arborists and found it reassuring to know what is happening with my big trees. I hope you find the same.
