Why are my string beans flimsy? #875539
Asked July 01, 2024, 4:40 PM EDT
Hi, my string beans plants have looked really good. I'm using the Contender variety. For some reason, though, the beans are flimsy (spongy feeling too) even though I planted them in April. Plant leaves have good green color.

Expert Response
Hi,
They look good besides not being crisp. Are they fully ready to be picked? Are they being watered evenly? Are these being fertilized? It could be because of the heat. Check them in the early morning instead to see if they are more crisp then? If you refrigerate them afterwards do they crisp up? If they look like they are thriving otherwise, we think it must just be from the high temperatures.
Perhaps try some of those techniques and let us know if there is a difference.
