Apricot fruit splitting #875526

Asked July 01, 2024, 2:57 PM EDT

I have two apricot trees: moongold and sungold that are planted next to each other. The fruit on one tree has developed a split or crack in nearly all the fruit. The tree next to it has not been affected and the fruit on that tree looks great. Do you know why this has happened and what the remedy may be? Thanks in advance!

Expert Response

Apricot cracking is almost always caused by lots of rain all at once. Some varieties crack more than others. Tree canopy, slope of the ground, the amount of mulch etc. will all affect how much rain reaches the roots. The stage the fruit is at is also a factor.
