We have number of trees that have either died or are in the process of dying in our Waterford Township neighborhood. We are hoping you can identify the problem and advise on what we can do. Thank you
Note: I did send another ask inquiry about a different problem with many of our trees, so this is a second ask inquiry.

Good Morning,
It appears the trunk is covered in lichens. Lichens are actually two organisms, a fungi and algae. The two organisms occur together and form a symbiotic, or mutually beneficial, relationship. The fungi provide protection and a place for algae to live while the algae provide energy via photosynthesis. There are thousands of types of lichens made up of various fungi and algae, and some types of cyanobacteria.
What are lichens and what are they doing on my tree? - MSU Extension
It also looks like the tree is suffering from a nutrient deficiency. See article for treatment.
It isn't fall yet, so why are my tree's leaves yellow? - MSU Extension
You may want to have an arborist come out and assess your trees. Find certified arborists by searching under the “Find an arborist” tab, and using your zip code here—-www.treesaregood.org
I hope this helps. Thanks for using our service.
