Cottonwood tree #875498

Asked July 01, 2024, 1:13 PM EDT

I have a large old cotton wood tree that sheds cotton from June to fall. Is there something I can use to stop that? If so where do I buy it? Thank You

Expert Response

There are ethephon-based growth regulator sprays that can be used, but they have to come in contact with the flowers to be effective. On a large tree that will be challenging. I would recommend contacting a professional arborist. The timing of the spray is also important.

If you choose to contact an arborist, we recommend working with a company licensed by the City of Grand Junction (https://www.gjcity.org/DocumentCenter/View/9426/2024-Forestry-Licensed-Tree-Care-Providers-PDF?bidId=).
