I work and live in western Pennsylvania and am unfamiliar with fruit trees grown in California. My best guess is that this is a loquat tree. The fruit looks identical to images I find on the internet, but the leaves of your tree do not look as elongated as the ones I find online. I suggest you take a sample of the fruit and leaves to your local garden center for verification.
