Plum disease? #875388

Asked June 30, 2024, 6:28 PM EDT

Greetings! We have a backyard plum tree that has consistently produced an incredible amount of delicious plums every single year. All of a sudden - it looks like it has some kind of disease. Can you please let me know: 1) What is it? 2) Can we treat it? 3) Can we eat these plums when/if any of them actually ripen? Thank you so much for your time! Best, Amy Potter and Jon Carr

Expert Response

Thank you for your questions, Amy.  I am unable to tell whether this is a bacterial or fungal infection from the photos.  I suggest that you take samples into either the Clackamas County (https://extension.oregonstate.edu/clackamas) or Washington County (https://extension.oregonstate.edu/washington) Extension office during hours when a Master Gardener can examine them.  They also have access to food safety experts to answer that question.  Good luck!
