Unknown pest #875360

I have a beautiful edgeworthia that seems to be doing great. However l noticed today that there are little, super hard brown seed like things hanging from a thin thread. I tried breaking the seed open but it just crumbles. They are hanging from the underside of the leaves on about 3/4 of the tree. Is this an insect problem? I don't know if you can tell anything by my photos. Thank you, Kean Lange

Expert Response

Hi Kean and thanks for your question about the tiny black "things" hanging from your edgeworthia. You are right, I can't tell from your picture what they might be. You can try to put one in a jar and see if it hatches into something, but as long as your plant is doing fine, I wouldn't worry about them. If you can get a better picture with the light on it instead of behind it and with more magnification, we can try again.

Thanks, I will give that a try. Kean
