maple pruning #875349

Is it safe for plant heath to prune my maple in the summer? This one looks more like a shrub than a tree, The lower branch is 6 inches in circumference or so and it's very hard to mow the lawn under it. It is also blocking the view of the rest of the yard. The base has multiple trunks and I want to cut one off, but I love this tree and want to prune it the right way. Thanks.

Pruning in summer will not do great harm to your maple tree as long as you are not removing more than a few branches.  The links below offer information, Clemson's site concentrating on maple pruning information and Montana's giving detailed tips on techniques and careful placement of pruning cuts.

It might be valuable to call or visit the Coshocton County's office of The OSU Extension Service, where they may be able to refer you to a licensed arborist  who could evaluate the removal of one or more of the multiple trunks.  That office is at:
