I have some Boomerang lilacs (they bloom in Spring and again in the Fall). They need to be trimmed. If I trim them now am I risking them not blooming next season or this Fall?

Both. Prune only after the spring bloom and then do so immediately because the sprub will start producing the buds for the next blooming period.
