White mulberry removal #875285

Asked June 29, 2024, 6:14 PM EDT

Hello, we have several white mulberry trees growing around our yard in places we’d like to remove; along a chain fence, among landscaping/hostas, at the edge of a log pile etc. Is there way to remove them without chemicals? They are young plants but have very strong root systems it seems and I can’t easily pull them up.

Expert Response

Sorry, the following web pages recommend pulling the plants or cutting them down and using a herbicide. The hosta leaves will cover the stumps after the trees are cut down.  The roots will produce new shoots, so a herbicide chemical will have to be painted on the stumps. Then cover the stumps with a tin can.
