Should I be worried about this yellow fungus-like thing? It’s very smooth looking but an irregular shape. I think it dries and crumbles up the soil it’s in contact with. It doesn’t look like it’s supposed to be there, whatever it is.

It's hard to tell from the picture. This could be slime mold, Fuligo septica, commonly known as "scrambled egg slime" and most commonly found on the mulch. It's not toxic to humans, animals, or plants but may not look attractive. You can scrape it up and throw it in the trash or in the compost bin.
