Boxwood blight? #875282

Asked June 29, 2024, 5:40 PM EDT

We live in Bowers Harbor, north of Traverse City. I have not heard of anyone in our area having boxwood blight, but something is quickly damaging my boxwoods. I have not introduced any new box woods in at least 3 years.

Expert Response

Hi Amy, thanks for the question.

After examining the pictures, the stem and leaf lesions of Boxwood Blight seem to be missing.  Also, the leaf drop on Boxwood blight is sudden.  Volutella Blight is another disease that seems to fit what you are seeing.  Check out the following links:

Landscape disease report: Volutella stem and leaf blight on boxwood (Buxus spp.) // Missouri Environment and Garden News Article // Integrated Pest Management, University of Missouri

Landscape: Boxwood: Common Health Issues in the Landscape | Center for Agriculture, Food, and the Environment at UMass Amherst

I hope this is helpful.
