Raspberry plant issues #875251

Asked June 29, 2024, 2:35 PM EDT

I've noticed my raspberry plants this year don't look the best. The second year fruiting canes have stunted leaves and are turning red/brown. The first year came seem to look better but I'm not sure if I need to spray them or what. The fruit size seems to be ok and the taste is still good.

What does a soil test say about the nutrients in the soil? How have you fertilized?

The plants look to be low on a couple nutrients. The general yellowing and stunting could be due to low nitrogen levels. The bronzing and red veining can indicate some other nutrient deficiencies.

If the soil test looks good and you have been feeding them with some fertilizer this spring then I would think about how well the nutrients are getting up into the canes. Are they getting enough water to move the nutrients in? If you are getting good fruit, then my guess is yes but I mention it just in case. It is also possible that the vines have acquired a virus. Viruses can build up inside the phloem of brambles, blocking nutrient transfer to the rest of the plant.
