Are these little white things baby grubs? I dug a small area of my yard with a knife to try to figure out what is wrong with my lawn. FYI-I just sent in a soil sample to learn more about my soil. I think I also have an insect problem.

Hi Janice,
It would help our expert if you would take 3-4 of the insects and place on a smooth plain background( not paper towel, cement, etc. because the texture throws the camera focus off).

I will watch for your update. EDIT TO ADD- ALSO, A COIN OR RULER IN THE NEW PICTURE, PLEASE
Additional pics as requested. I hope this will help, they are very small and while trying to separate from soil, an ant was carrying one away. No wonder I also seem to have an ant problem. Thank you.
These are definitely not the type of beetle larvae (grubs) that cause damage to turfgrass. I can't offer an identification beyond that, but this does not appear to be any species that would be harming your grass.
Ok thank you. I will spot check again in a few weeks to see if they are larger and perhaps easier to identify.

They look like cocoons, which means the next stage would most likely be an adult form that will have wings and fly away. In other words, they will not get bigger. I would suggest you wait for your soil test results to come back, take some photos of your lawn, and submit those separately as a "what is wrong with my lawn?" question.
Thank you! I will do that.
