I'm not sure if I'm in the right place, but I'm wondering how many times it is normal for Cooper's Hawks to try to nest in one season and why this would happen. Our resident pair are old (I believe the male to be beyond usual max wild lifespan) and have begun courtship a 4th time this year. She has not built a new nest this year, but is reusing old nest sites, moving sticks from one to one of the others. The neighborhood is also the shared territory of a pair of red tailed (most their territory to the SE) barred owls (most their territory to the SW)) and great horned owls (most of their territory to the NW, as is the Cooper's Pair's). The neighborhood is ringed by agricultural fields. Is this likely age? Pesticides? One of the other raptors taking issue after years of coexistence?
How many times will they retry nesting? I feel if they were successful now the eyas would not fledge until closer to Halloween. (usually they fledge within a week of today, here/4th of July weekend).
(Included pictures are included for picture's sake and are 2 years old. Female has always been orange-eyed, but is not young.)
