Fireblight #875175

Asked June 28, 2024, 8:04 PM EDT

Hello we have 3 trees now with fireblight.  Started in one tree, and quickly spread.  We were advised to wait till fall to prune, but it appears that it is spreading quickly. Can you recommend best way to manage this problem?  thank you.

Expert Response

Hi Susan,

We are sorry to hear that you're dealing with fire blight on your trees. To make sure I am able to give you the best guidance, I'd like to get a bit more information if thats okay.

What kind of trees have been affected? When did the fire blight start? What, if any, cultural practices have you already tried in an attempt to mitigate? How are these trees being irrigated (by what method and how frequently)? What county is the property located in? Would you also be willing to please send us a few photos of the affected trees, maybe one or two of the landscape as a whole and a few closer up views?

I'll attach our CSU Extension fact sheet on fire blight along with a link to the International Society of Arboriculture in case you decide to seek the help of a professional arborist.
