Maple Tree #875163

I have a mature maple tree and the leaves are fall off. The leaves that fall have what looks like sap on them and maybe small bugs. The tree appears to be healthy.

Expert Response

Hi Janet and thanks for your question about the sap on your maple tree leaves. I can see signs of aphids which would emit a sweet substance after sucking sap out of the tree. However, most of the signs seem to be of aphid corpses that have been eaten by a parasitoid, so I believe the problem should take care of itself.

You may see some ladybugs move in, as they also take care of aphids over time. If you want to spray the lower part of the tree with water you might be able to knock off some remaining aphids, but I'm pretty sure the tree is too big to apply that to the top.

Thanks for the picture of your lovely tree!
