Leaves of Green Bean Plant Appear to Have Some Type of Disease #875151
Asked June 28, 2024, 4:59 PM EDT
Good afternoon,
Are you able to identify what is going on with this green bean plant's leaves (pictures 4 and 5)? It is growing in a medium size container and is an heirloom Kentucky Wonder Bean Pole plant. These particular leaves were about 18" from the soil line. There are a few leaves up higher in the plant that are starting to get spots, otherwise the plant looks healthy.
Any insight you can provide will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Terry
P.S. Earlier I sent another Ask a Question for an heirloom tomato plant that has spots as well and is growing adjacent to the green bean plant.

Hi Terry, Thanks for the question.
This looks like spider mite damage. They like it dry and dusty their population can explode. If you have a good hand lens you may be able to see them, they are very small and usually on the underside of the leave. You may see some fine webbing. You can also do the "paper test". A stiff spray of water can help to remove them. Insecticidal soap also works. Check out the following link for information:

I hope this helps.
