Cherry tree with rot #875140

Asked June 28, 2024, 4:03 PM EDT

We have a cherry tree That we just noticed this week has Cherry rot. We are picking off as much fruit as possible, but now we see that some of the branches appear to be affected, along with the trunk. It is mostly dead branches that have the markings, so we wonder if we should cut those dead branches off now. Usually we try to wait until the winter to do that.

I am giving you a link to our excellent material on brown rot.  However, if the disease has spread to the trunk, there is no way to prune off the trunk without killing the tree.  Maybe it is time to replace it next spring with something else.  https://extension.umn.edu/plant-diseases/brown-rot-stone-fruit
