Is this healthy? (Trees) #875138

Asked June 28, 2024, 3:38 PM EDT

While pruning my horsetail chestnut I. Priced the core of the branch was blackened in a couple of the limbs. What caused this damage and is it fatal? Any recommendations for how to care for it? Thanks

Is this the only thing you have seen that is concerning to you? Is there anything else that seems different or is it strictly what you have shown in the picture? Just wondering if otherwise the tree seems healthy to you and if there is anything else possibly going on.

Hello-
I thought that the tree seemed healthy, and  was so healthy looking that I decided to prune it! My intention was to keep it from getting too large and throwing  a lot of shade on my flower bed.
Not all the limbs I cut were damaged like that.
So I’m just curious because it did not look the same on all the cuttings.
Anything I should be concerned about?
Thank you for your time.
Kindly,

Sometimes the best course of action is nothing at all. If the tree seems otherwise healthy and vigorous, I would simply keep an eye on it to see if anything changes in the future. Here is a link with the some general information about horse chestnut, including disease conditions it may be prone to:
