Flowering almond leaves sparse #875089

Asked June 28, 2024, 11:25 AM EDT

We have a flowering almond in our yard that seemed to flower just fine this spring, but after flowering the leaves are sparse and there are these brown withered things on it. Is it recoverable?

Hi John,

I think your tree may have brown rot blossom rot. We have had perfect weather for this fungal problem.

The wet spring has created the perfect environment for lots of fungal issues and they are very hard to treat. I doubt it will kill your tree. Be sure to remove any diseased parts, don't let them sit on the ground.

Decide how you want to proceed, either organically or chemically and treat the tree early next spring.

Good luck,
