Plum tree issues #875013

We moved into a 2004 home 4-5 years ago. The first year, we found an overgrown plum tree that produced tons of fruit (which I happily made into jam). Since then, though the tree flowers in the spring, we see very little green fruit and no mature plums. We have pruned dead branches the last couple years. On close inspection today, many of the leaves have galls (picture included). How can we revive this plum tree?

Expert Response
Weather can heavily influence fruit production. Late freezes can reduce production. Pollination is also a factor. And fertilization is a factor. Our publication at the first website gives details on how to grow plums.

Once galls form there is no effective treatment until spring when horticultural oils can be used to prevent the galls from forming. Be sure to clean up any leaf litter in the fall.
