Apple tree leaf spots #875012
Asked June 27, 2024, 5:04 PM EDT
We planted 2 Summer crisp pear trees and six apple trees (Zestar, Honeycrisp and Haralred) last fall. The pear trees have developed dark spots on many leaves (first picture). The Honeycrisp and Zestar apple trees trees have developed orange spots on the leaves (second and third picture). Wondering what to do to treat them and prevent similar issues with the other trees.

Pears: Your pear trees might have leaf spot or a fungal disease called pear scab. The leaves also appear to have raised bumps, which could be symptoms of pear leaf blister mites. These diseases often thrive in humid or moist conditions, which we've certainly been having. To manage this, usegood sanitation by removing and destroying fallen leaves and fruit and prune the trees to improve circulation. If the problem worsens, you might consider using a fungicide.
Apples: This looks like black rot. Look at the attached links which contain photos to see if you agree. The U of Mn advises that f fungicides are not necessary for this condition and that careful pruning and good sanitation practices will help. https://apps.extension.umn.edu/garden/diagnose/plant/deciduous/apple/leavesspots.html
