Asked June 27, 2024, 3:36 PM EDT

What is going on with this spirea? Planted two this spring and they both look like this. Yellowing leaves and wilty looking. Too much water or not enough? Or a nutrient problem? Help?

Expert Response

Hi Ann,

This looks like a normal reaction to planting and establishment. Depending on when they were planted, it takes a lot for a plant to adjust to outdoor growing conditions (and the heat and sun). Leaf drop and yellowing leaves almost always happens.

Just continue with your regular cultural practices and continue watering through the end of the season.

Blue-mist spirea is such a great shrub! One of the very best for pollinators.
