pest eating weeping cherry #874955

Asked June 27, 2024, 12:09 PM EDT

I have a 25 yr. old weeping cherry that has been very healthy. something is eating leaves, and many branches are bare after leaves darken and curl up dry. some leaves are eaten on sides, not just lacy around veins. I have zinneas and violets and sunflowers looking like similar chewing. have found only a couple small caterpillars on leaves of tree as if young. cannot observe anything on the tree or plants. have found an orange/brown bug in soil around these plants. the tree has a old gash in the side that may be open in some part and getting a pest or disease. I tried to include photos that are images from my phone, but they do not upload. please advise as I think the photos would help ID problem. thanks

Hi Kristin,

Lisa let me know that she has not yet received photos - without photos it is hard to specifically diagnose your problem but I have pulled a few lists of pests and diseases (since we cannot rule out a pathogen/disease/fungus) that may help you identify what is going on - we are still happy to work more closely on diagnosis upon receipt of photos per Lisa's instruction.
