problem with an English shrub rose #874861

Asked June 26, 2024, 5:57 PM EDT

Hello, I have a David Austin English rose ("Windemere") with a problem showing on its leaves. I've attached a photo. Do you know what is causing this and how I might address it? Thank you

Expert Response

Hi Cris,

This is insect damage, likely caused by a roseslug sawfly.  Check the underside of your leaves for larvae like the ones in this article:

If this is the once-per-season sawfly, you may only need to remove the damaged leaves.  If it is the European specie, it will benefit from treatment as noted in Joe's article.

Please let me know if you have further questions.
