Daylily leaves streaking #874855
Asked June 26, 2024, 5:28 PM EDT
The daylily plants are showing leaves that are yellowing and becoming brown. The Lillie’s have begun to bloom and are generally healthy. The lily beds have been mulched recently with wood chips or ground leaves. We have completed a soil test three years ago and plan on one later this season.
What is causing the discoloring and what can we do?
Ramsey County Minnesota
Expert Response
It could be two different reasons. One, the most likely, is that the soil is too moist with all the rain we have had and the mulch is not allowing them to dry out. Pull the mulch back some and allow them to breathe. Or, streaking will appear when you have iris borers: https://hort.extension.wisc.edu/articles/iris-borer/
I misspoke. I meant to give you information on Daylily diseases and pests. Here is the correct link: https://hgic.clemson.edu/factsheet/daylily-diseases-insect-pests/
