New tree, black leaves! #874722

Asked June 25, 2024, 9:52 PM EDT

Hello, I recently purchased and planted a bare root McDermand pear tree. At the time of purchase, which was purchased in late May, there were no leaves on it. I planted it and started to water it. After soon good heavy rains and some good sunshine, it started to sprout leaves. I have been water the tree consistently and the leaves are big and full. When I went to water the trees tonight, I noticed that some of the leaves have black edges on them and some of the smaller leaves have wilted away and appear black. Does anyone know what is happening and what I should be doing? Thank you in advance.

Expert Response

Hi Johny,

You may be overwatering. Have you had a lot of rain there? This pear cannot tolerate poorly drained soil.

Here are guidelines on watering a new tree:

I hope this helps. Good luck.
